Should I Chase Passion or Money?

Should I Chase Passion or Money?

Talking about the choice between working according to passion or choosing a more stable and high salary often becomes a dilemma for many people, especially Gen-Z. The question arises, is it better to follow your passion or aim for a high salary?

Working according to passion is a dream for many individuals. We feel more engaged, motivated, and have a high level of enthusiasm to grow in a field we love. However, it’s important to remember that working according to passion can be challenging. Sometimes passion-based jobs often have an unstable income and may not be as lucrative as more conventional jobs.

On the other hand, choosing a stable job can provide life stability. We can have a regular monthly income, health benefits, and retirement guarantees. Although these jobs may not ignite our passion, the ability to meet our living needs becomes the top priority.

Doing a job that doesn’t align with our passion can also have negative consequences. We may feel demotivated, and we may not have a sense of belonging in that job. Lack of interest and enthusiasm can affect the quality of our work and potentially impact our long-term career prospects. Moreover, if we don’t enjoy what we do, we may feel trapped in a boring and unsatisfying routine.

According to a survey by Indeed, 60% of employers say their employees are demotivated at work due to a lack of interest in their jobs. When choosing between working according to passion or chasing a high salary, it’s important to consider the following factors:

Find a balance

Try to find a middle ground between passion and career. One way to achieve this is by choosing our passion field and turning it into freelance work.

Financial considerations

It’s important to evaluate our financial situation and responsibilities. Do we have financial burdens that need to be met, such as rent, education expenses, or family responsibilities? If yes, then choosing a financially stable job may become the top priority. However, that doesn’t mean we have to completely sacrifice our passion. We can still pursue our passion in our free time.

Ultimately, there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to choosing between working according to passion or choosing a stable job. This decision is highly personal and should be tailored to individual needs and values.

It’s important to listen to our conscience and also reality, take wise risks, and be prepared to face any challenges that may arise along the way. Whatever our choice, the most important thing is to do our best in our work and strive for true happiness and success.
